Jenny BunnMy vet provides a free service and gets inundated because other local vets do not provide a free service and I have been warned off of one because of a suspicion that they put wild animals down because they do not want to provide a free service. Some animals are protected like hedgehogs and if you want people to care for them - a time consuming and sometimes expensive procedure you should be able to get them looked at for free.

Esther RobinsonAs a hedgehog carer and rescuer it is very important to be able to take them to the vet without paying. If I had to pay for visits I would have to stop helping. I could not handle the cost or the consequences of not taking them when it was required. I understand the need for paying for medications and the like.
JudyTim is enjoying using my garden as a wildlife sanctuary. i much prefer wildlife to him.
Lisa Paynethis is so very important. I am lucky that my vet treats the animals I bring in for free - but I know from past experience with other vets that this is not always the case and I have had hefty bills which have sometimes been a struggle to pay.

Anita LakeyI believe that most of the Vets in my area already make no charge for this treatment but I feel it should be a matter of conscience that no Vet makes a charge for treating a wild animal in distress.

Stuart brooksThis an excellent idea, which should be supported. We can have wild animals left to die if found by people not prepared to pay.

Chris PercivalI have an excellent vet - but many do not!
Yvonne CoxI have recently had discussions with vet college who sent me standard letter, saying vets did have to treat but it was so ambiguous.Vets could have easily wriggled out of their obligations.

Katherine GalbraithVets (like doctors with the human animal) have a moral obligation to help any animal that is in need of their skills. If they do not help, and the rescuer/carer can not afford to pay, what then for the animal? Some things in life are worth more than money in the bank. Within my experience, I can not think of a single practice whose profits would be seriously compromised by having to treat occasional wildlife casualties.

Trish ShortlandAs a hedgehog rescuer and carer free vet care is very important. These wonderful little animals do not chose to become orphaned, ill or injured, just like other wildlife do not make that choice - they should have free treatment.
