Campaign 1 - FREE Veterinary Consultations for Wild Animals
Latest information : A letter regarding enforcing Free Veterinary Consultations for Wild Animals has been recieved from DEFRA.
Extracts from the the letter are written as follows :
" The Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966) establishes the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) as the regulator of the veterinary profession. Neither the Act nor the RCVS Guide to Professional Conduct requires veterinary surgeons to provide services, including the consultations free of charge, when dealing with wild animals. It would be inappropriate for the government to intervene in the business practices of private veterinary clinics by imposing an obligation on veterinary surgeons to provide free services. This is a matter for the regulator. "
So what can we do next?
Our plan is to lobby and petition the RCVS regarding our campaign for Free Veterinary Consultations for Wild Animals, and urge them to consider making free consultations for wild animals standard practice in all veterinary practices; if not for all wildlife, then certainly for endangered species in the UK!
What can YOU do?
The only way our campaign is going to have any effect is with mass input from many people. This involves EVERYONE from wildlife lovers, wildlife carers and rehabilitators to let their opinion be heard by the RCVS.
The fact of the matter is that without having Free veterinary consultations for wild animals, emergency visits to the Vets can prove VERY costly, as many Vets charge for consultations.
What YOU can do is very simple, and also very effective!
